in the 1940s Pachuca’s stood bien firmes- fighting for creative liberation and freedom of expression for women of color. During the time, it was a misdemeanor to wear a zoot suit in the City of Los Angeles. Pachuca women took up space, defying the cultural standards of Mexican American womanhood.

This concept represents a long history of breaking boundaries as a Mexican-American woman.

Romanticizing an era of rebellion, the Pachuco style continues to live on in the Mexican-American community to this day.

Pachuca women participated in a spectacular subculture by visibly occupying public spaces through exaggerated hair and flashy ensembles.
